Vehicle daily pre-trip inspection checklist

Tyres — Tread above the legal minimum, no cuts or bulges, pressure looks correct

Wheels — All wheel nuts present, no sign of looseness

Lights — Headlights, indicators, brake, reversing and hazard lights all work

Mirrors — Mirrors clean, not cracked, correctly adjusted

Windscreen and wipers — No crack in the driver’s field of view; wipers and washers clear the glass

Bodywork — No damage with sharp edges; doors and tailgate close and latch

Ground under the vehicle — Any fluid leak under the vehicle?

Engine oil — Engine oil level between the dipstick marks

Coolant — Coolant level between the marks of the expansion tank

Brake fluid — Brake fluid level between the marks

Washer fluid — Washer fluid reservoir filled

Dashboard — No warning light remains on after the engine starts

Service brake — Pedal firm; the vehicle stops straight in a low-speed test

Parking brake — Parking brake holds the vehicle

Steering — Steering responds without excessive play

Horn — Horn sounds

Seat belts — Every seat belt latches and retracts

Fuel or charge — Fuel level or battery charge sufficient for the planned trip

Load — Load secured, within the payload, nothing loose in the cab

Documents — Registration, insurance, inspection certificate and accident report form on board

Safety kit — Warning triangle, high-visibility vest, first-aid kit and fire extinguisher where required

Remarks — Defects to report to the fleet manager
