Schedule

Every 3 months

  • Fixed calendar: the next date does not move with the completion date.
  • Work order window: 7 days
Estimated duration: 3 hPriority: Medium

Imported inactive and without equipment: assign it to your assets, set its start date (the first due date), check the intervals against the manufacturer’s manual, then switch it on.

Tasks at each service

  1. Observe the conveyor running, from a safe position

Walk the conveyor while it runs empty then loaded, outside the guards: belt tracking at the head, tail and along the run, spillage, carry-back on the return belt, and the noise of idlers and pulley bearings.

    Inspection20 min

Risks: Never reach past a guard or touch a moving belt; stay away from the head, tail and take-up nip points.

  2. Inspect the belt and the splice

Conveyor stopped and locked out, check the top and bottom covers, the edges for fraying, and the splice or mechanical fasteners for cracks, lifting and missing fasteners.

    Inspection20 min

Risks: Isolate and lock out the drive, and release the take-up tension where work requires it, before any contact with the belt.

  3. Inspect the idlers and the return rollers

Look for seized, worn, noisy or missing rollers and bent frames. A seized roller wears through quickly and can start a fire: replace it.

    Inspection30 min
  4. Inspect the pulleys and their lagging

Check the drive, tail and bend pulleys for lagging wear and detachment, material build-up, and their bearing housings for cracks and loose bolts.

    Inspection15 min
  5. Adjust or replace the belt cleaners and the skirting

Adjust the scraper blades to the belt, replace worn blades, and set the skirting rubbers so they seal without pressing hard on the belt.

    Action20 min
  6. Check the belt tension and the take-up travel

Check that the take-up still has travel left in both directions and the belt does not slip on the drive pulley at start-up; shorten the belt if the take-up is at the end of its travel.

    Verification10 min
  7. Grease the pulley bearings

Grease each pulley bearing with the grease type and quantity given by the manufacturer; never over-grease.

    Action15 min

    Tools: Grease gun

  8. Inspect the drive

Check the gearbox oil level and leaks, the coupling or drive chain, the motor and gearbox mounting bolts, and the torque arm where fitted.

    Inspection15 min
  9. Change the gearbox oil

Once a year, or at the interval given by the gearbox manufacturer for the oil used. Drain warm, inspect the drained oil for metal particles, and refill with the grade and quantity on the nameplate.

    Action45 minonce every 4 services
  10. Check that every guard is in place before restarting

Check the guards at the head, tail, take-up and bend pulleys and along the drive, then remove the locks.

    Verification10 min
  11. Test every stop device along the conveyor and record the findings

Pull each pull-cord switch along the full length and press each emergency stop button: the conveyor must stop and stay stopped until reset. Test the belt misalignment switches and the zero-speed switch where fitted. Record the findings and the parts replaced in the work order.

    Verification30 min
