Schedule

Every 3 months

  • Fixed calendar: the next date does not move with the completion date.
  • Work order window: 7 days
Estimated duration: 1 hPriority: Medium

Imported inactive and without equipment: assign it to your assets, set its start date (the first due date), check the intervals against the manufacturer’s manual, then switch it on.

Tasks at each service

  1. Check the shaft seal for leakage

With the pump running, check the mechanical seal for drips or the packing for a leakage rate within the manufacturer’s limits.

    Inspection5 min
  2. Measure vibration at the bearing housings

Measure overall velocity vibration in mm/s on the pump and motor bearing housings, in the same points as the baseline, and compare with the previous readings.

    Measurement15 min

    Tools: Vibration meter

Risks: Rotating shaft: keep the coupling guard in place during the measurement.

  3. Measure the bearing temperatures

Measure the surface temperature of each bearing housing and look for a rise against the previous readings.

    Measurement5 min

    Tools: Infrared thermometer

  4. Read the suction and discharge pressures

Read both gauges and check that the operating point is close to the duty point; a drift can reveal wear or cavitation.

    Measurement10 min
  5. Inspect the coupling guard and the anchor bolts

Check that the coupling guard is complete and fixed, and that the baseplate anchor and foot bolts are tight.

    Inspection10 min
  6. Lubricate the bearings

Grease or top up the oil of the bearings with the lubricant and the quantity given by the manufacturer; never over-grease.

    Action15 minonce every 2 services

    Tools: Grease gun

  7. Check the shaft alignment

With the pump stopped, isolated and locked out, check the pump-to-motor alignment with a laser tool and correct it within the tolerance of the coupling.

    Measurement60 minonce every 4 services

    Tools: Laser shaft alignment tool

Risks: Isolate and lock out the motor before removing the coupling guard.

  8. Record the readings and the findings

Record every value in the work order and report anything that needs a corrective action.

    Verification5 min
