Direct Messages (DMs)

Direct messages are private 1:1 conversations between you and another team member. They are find-or-create — clicking 'New DM' with a user already in a DM with you reopens the existing conversation instead of creating a duplicate.

Creating a direct message

1. Open Chat — Click the Chat entry in the sidebar.
2. Click 'New DM' — A picker opens listing every active user in your company.
3. Pick a recipient — Select the person you want to message. The DM opens immediately.
4. Send your message — Type in the composer and press Enter (Shift+Enter for newline).

Notes to self (Self-DM)

Pick yourself in the recipient list to create a 'Notes to self' conversation — a private space for reminders, snippets and quick references. Self-DMs behave exactly like normal DMs except no one else can read them.
