Mobile App Installation

Install the FreeMaint mobile app on iOS and Android โ€” including manual APK sideload and first-login walkthrough

3 min read

The FreeMaint mobile app is the field-facing companion to the web product. Technicians use it to scan QR codes, complete work orders, log meter readings, capture photos, and chat with the office โ€” all from the shop floor. It works on iOS and Android, and is also available as a direct APK for environments where the Play Store is restricted.

iOS installation

  1. Open the App Store โ€” On your iPhone or iPad, launch the App Store app
  2. Search for FreeMaint โ€” Search FreeMaint CMMS; verify the publisher is FreeMaint
  3. Tap Get โ€” Authenticate with Face ID, Touch ID, or your Apple ID password
  4. Open the app โ€” Tap the FreeMaint icon on your home screen to launch

Android installation (Play Store)

  1. Open Google Play โ€” Launch the Play Store app
  2. Search for FreeMaint โ€” Search FreeMaint CMMS; verify the publisher is FreeMaint
  3. Tap Install โ€” Wait for the download to finish (~40 MB)
  4. Open the app โ€” Tap Open from the Play Store page, or the icon in your launcher

Direct APK install (Android)

For organisations whose phones cannot reach the Play Store โ€” for example, dedicated devices on a private MDM โ€” we publish a signed APK at freemaint.com/downloads/mobile. The APK is signed with the same certificate as the Play Store build, so updates flow cleanly.

  1. Allow unknown sources โ€” Settings โ†’ Apps โ†’ Special access โ†’ Install unknown apps โ†’ enable for your browser
  2. Download the APK โ€” Open the link from your tenant settings page; save to Downloads
  3. Open the file โ€” Tap the downloaded APK in your file manager
  4. Confirm install โ€” Android shows a Google Play Protect prompt โ€” confirm to install

Device requirements

iOS

iOS 15.0 or later โ€” iPhone 8 and newer, all current iPad models

Android

Android 8.0 (API 26) or later โ€” most devices from 2017 onward

Network

Cellular or WiFi at first launch; later offline session up to 7 days

Storage

About 120 MB after install, including offline cache

Permissions explained

At first launch the app requests a small set of permissions. Each one is requested only when first needed and can be revoked from the device settings later.

Camera

QR scanner and photo attachments. Required for the bottom-bar scanner.

Notifications

Push notifications for assignments, status changes, overdue alerts

Storage

Save offline copies of assigned work orders and recent attachments

Location (optional)

Only if your tenant enables GPS clock-in or location-aware QR scanning

First login

On first launch you can sign in with your existing FreeMaint email + password. If your company uses SSO, tap the Sign in with SSO button and follow your identity provider. If you are a username-based user (no email), enter username@your-company-slug as the identifier.

  1. Enter your credentials โ€” Email or username, then password
  2. Allow notifications โ€” Tap Allow on the iOS or Android system prompt
  3. Walk through onboarding โ€” Two-screen swipe explaining the bottom bar and the scanner
  4. Land on the home screen โ€” Your assigned work orders are listed by default

Offline support

Once authenticated, the app caches your assigned work orders, recent assets, and inspection forms locally. You can keep working with no signal โ€” completing tasks, capturing photos, logging meter readings โ€” and FreeMaint syncs everything the next time you have a connection. The sync indicator at the top of the screen tells you when data is pending.

Common installation issues

Cannot find FreeMaint in the App Store / Play Store

Make sure your store country matches a supported one. The app is currently available worldwide; if it is missing, contact support with your country and device model.

Install fails on Android with a signing error

Uninstall any previous build (development APK) before installing the production version. Different signing keys cannot coexist.

Notifications never arrive on iOS

Settings โ†’ FreeMaint โ†’ Notifications โ†’ enable Allow Notifications. Then log out and back into the app to refresh the device token.

Tip

Enable auto-updates in your app store. New mobile releases ship roughly every two weeks and include security fixes alongside features.
