LOTO / Lockout-Tagout safety management on work orders
LOTO (Lockout/Tagout) is a critical safety procedure that prevents the unexpected startup of machinery or release of stored energy during maintenance. FreeMaint provides built-in LOTO management on work orders, compliant with OSHA 29 CFR 1910.147 and EN ISO 14118 standards.
What is LOTO?
Before working on machinery, technicians must physically lock and tag the energy source to prevent unexpected activation. LOTO ensures worker safety by isolating hazardous energy.
Using LOTO in FreeMaint
- Open the work order detail page
- Navigate to the LOTO / Lockout tab
- Click 'Add Lockout' to record the lockout
- Select lockout type: Mechanical, Electrical, Hydraulic, Pneumatic, Other
- Choose mode: Simple (single technician) or Group (multiple technicians)
- Enter padlock number and technician notes
- Save the lockout record
- When work is done, click 'Unlock / De-isolate' with technician signature
Blocking Completion
FreeMaint prevents work order completion while the machine is locked. This ensures no one accidentally closes a work order before equipment is released.
This feature helps maintain compliance with occupational safety regulations and protects your maintenance team.
